Findings from interviews

We gathered our data from user interviews, and collectively created affinity and empathy maps (linked here). This helped us track patterns and gather key insights across participants.

Interview insight #1

Addressing stigmatized areas

“We live in a society where menopause is not considered to be an open subject. It is not given a lot of attention, it is a relatively private subject.”
– Qinn, Age - 55; China
“I am comfortable talking about it but I sense a lot of hush hush from other women. Instead of shying away from the topic it should be openly discussed. It is a normal phenomenon, what’s to hide?”
– Mamta, Age - 52; India
Women from Asia and South America alike feel that there is still a lot of stigma around menopause, sex and intimacy. They are unable to clearly and comfortably communicate their struggles with co-workers and family.
Interview insight #2

Lack of communcation

“I didn’t have good experience with my healthcare provider. I felt doctor didn’t give importance to what i was saying. Doctor said it was normal due to my age as if what i was feeling wasn’t important.”
– Janaina, Age - 48; Brazil
Interviewing pet owners uncovered that not everyone shops for pet food online. 3 out of 5 participants said that they go to a physical store to buy food in bulk and to get discounts on their bulk orders. Majority users would like to save without compromising on the quality.
Interview insight #3

Impact at workplace

“I was going through a lot of highs and lows during my menopausal phase. Highs with my recent promotion and responsibilities as a SVP and lows with my symptoms.”
– Adeline, Age - 51; Singapore
Menopause, frequently occurs when women are most likely to step into senior roles. Its effects can have an impact on the number of women in top positions and the quality of women’s experiences throughout organizations.

Tying it together

The information architecture helped us decide on the content and ways to structure it.

Information architecture of MenoCare app

We also explored the landscape of wearables (WHOOP Coach, Oura Ring & Embr Wave) utilized in the domain of health and wellness, with a particular focus on devices catering to feminine health needs. Our test participants shared that they would prefer something discreet that could be easily integrated to the devices and wearables they already owned.

To test the feasibility of our app we created a usability study plan (linked here) and conducted usability tests with five participants. Our interview notes are recorded here.
